“I’m pretty much an intuitive painter so each blank canvas is a new journey, and I often don’t know where I’ll end up until I’ve arrived.”
Growing up in New Hampshire, abstract acrylic painter Roxy Rubell was deeply influenced by her French grandmother’s still life and abstract oil paintings, whose vibrant colors and expressive movement left a lasting impression. A self-taught artist, Rubell began painting in 2011 while living in Los Angeles.
Her work draws inspiration from a wide range of artists, including Helen Frankenthaler, Joan Mitchell, Jackson Pollock, and Henri Matisse. These influences emerge through her fearless use of color, texture, and expressive brushwork.
Distinguished by a balance of energy and reflection, Rubell’s paintings evoke both movement and moments of quiet contemplation. Current events, nature, popular culture, and personal emotions frequently serve as the inspiration behind her creative process, resulting in works that are both dynamic and deeply personal.
